A Boomerang Beach building project.
The extensive renovation and extension of this original house at Boomerang Beach transformed the property from a tiny three bedroom cottage into a sprawling six bedroom home complete with self-contained guest accommodation.
The owners assessed how the property was affected by the changing seasons.
Before embarking on the renovation, the owners lived in the home for 2 years. This gave them an insight into how the home was affected by the changing seasons. While some homeowners opt to jump in and renovate immediately, the owners of this property wanted to ensure they got this renovation right because, with a large brood of kids, they didn’t want to embark on a renovation on this scale again. Assessing the movement of the sun prompted the installation of a pitch roof so they could maximise solar panel output.
Positioned at the front of a sizeable 990 sqm block (within a casual stroll from Boomerang Beach), the owners wanted to utilise the structures already on the property. This included a small 3 bedroom cottage, adjacent garage and yoga studio complete with plumbing already installed.
A clever L-shaped design was created.
Utilising a clever L-shaped design, they simply “filled in the gaps” between the house, garage and yoga studio. This added an additional three bedrooms and allowed them to open up the original house to create a large open plan living, kitchen and dining area. The yoga studio was converted into a parents retreat with ensuite bathroom.
The self contained studio is a private retreat for guests.
Still with ample land spare, a new self contained guest studio was added behind the parent’s retreat. While attached to the home, the studio has it’s own entrance and is a private area for guests to stay separate, yet still connected, to the main house.
Best of all, there is still ample garden for the kids and dog to play.
